Despite the cold and rain, we see how the days are getting longer and brighter, and soon there will verify how the first rays of spring sun begins to warm the atmosphere. It’s about time that the gardens and terraces look back at its best, and we must remain prepared for the arrival of good weather.

Japanese stepsThe pavements and roads are an important part of terraces and gardens, not only for its indispensable role but also for its decorative aspect. There are two very original and attractive elements to create paths and platforms in the Gardens: railway sleepers and the steps Japanese.

The sleepers currently only available for purchase of ecological or precast concrete. The original can not be used to be treated with creosote, a highly carcinogenic tar derivative.

The wooden sleepers are treated ecological autoclave (above) and sold in nurseries, DIY centers and lumber yards. They are attractive and totally safe, and cost about eighteen euros each. The precast concrete (opening photo) are about sixteen euros per piece.

As for the Japanese steps, precast concrete are taking different forms: smooth stones, cutting logs, leaves of lotus pond … The Eastern aesthetic, provide an intense originality to the paths of the gardens.
